Retinal Vascular Research Laboratory

Introduction

Welcome to the Retinal Vascular Research Laboratory in the Pritzker Institute of Medical Engineering at Illinois Institute of Technology. The focus of Dr. Kang Derwent ’s laboratory is the study of occlusive vascular disease in the mammalian retina. Specifically, the interest is investigation of thrombosis and its effect on the different retinal cell types and retinal blood flow using experimental animal models and quantitative/computational models. Recently, we have started an investigation into the rescue of degenerated photoreceptor cells through application of cell culture, surface modification techniques and biomaterials.
